How to Improve Oral Presentation?
Oral communication is the exchange of information in spoken form. Effective oral communicators practice controlling the volume, tempo and inflection of their voice while speaking. It is also important to speak with clear, concise sentences while continuously using self-assessment as a tool in improving oral communication skills.
       Prepare
Prepare ahead of time for the oral presentation. Take notes, research and then practice speaking in front of a mirror, a close friend or relative. Be sure you know the information and understand it. Some students may become anxious over the fact that they may not know the information as they should, which results in a student becoming overwhelmed and nervous on the day of the actual presentation.
Dress accordingly
Dress accordingly when giving an oral presentation. For example, a business or law student who is giving a presentation and wearing a T-shirt with beach shorts will probably not be taken seriously. Dress in business style clothes and act accordingly. A well-dressed presenter will more than likely deliver a confident speech and one that the students will learn from.
Staying on task
Present only the necessary slides, text or pictures during the oral presentation. Be sure each item shown is clear, concise and easily readable by the other students or those attending the presentation. Refrain from over-presenting a topic to the point where those listening will become restless or bored. Only present relative information, instead of adding fillers to gain a mandatory time limit that may be required by the professor or teacher.
Connection
Connect with the other students during the oral presentation. Instead of getting up, giving a speech and then automatically sitting back down, wait for any questions the students may have. If a particular student asks you to clarify a point, address them by name before answering their question. During the presentation, use a chalk board or a dry erase board, to write down key words and emphasize important points that you may be trying to convey to the students.
Hand-outs
Offer handouts to the students after the oral presentation, unless there is something particular that needs to be addressed before the end of the speech. Sometimes giving these out before the presentation is over will lure students into reading the handout and not paying attention to the speaker. Be sure the information in the handout is easy to read and the key points of the topic are highlighted for each student to see
Volume
Practice controlling the volume of your voice according to the specific situation in which you are using oral communication. For example, if you are giving a speech at a library, a softer voice would be ideal. However, if you are giving a motivational speech to a cheerleading team in the school's auditorium, a louder voice would be more appropriate.
Tempo
The tempo, or the speed, at which you are speaking must also be controlled depending on the situation you are in. For example, if you are having lunch with your friend in a coffee shop, a faster tempo of speech may be acceptable. If you are speaking to a group of young children or senior citizens, a slower speech tempo will be much more effective. Also avoid speaking with a fast tempo at formal or professional events.
Inflection
Practice using appropriate voice inflection in your oral communication to express emotions. Use a higher-pitched voice to express excitement, happiness or positive emotions. Lower the pitch of your voice to express sympathy, sincerity or authority during meaningful communication. The inflection of your voice should never be over-exaggerated or artificial sounding.
Self-Assessment
Use continuous self-assessment to improve your oral communication skills. Take notes directly after using oral communication to help you focus on the areas of your oral communication that need the most improvement. Record the progress that you have made in improving these areas, and evaluate your overall performance regularly.
Hard-to-Pronounce Words
Everyone has words that they find hard to pronounce and, inevitably, there will be a few of those in your presentation. Break the words down on your notes into spelled syllables that will help you pronounce them correctly, just like the dictionary does. Put those in big letters on your notes so you have help at a glance. They do not have to be correct grammatically, just put them in your notes anyway that helps you say them correctly.
Employ an Audience
Parents can be critical, and this is one of the times you want them to be. Employ your parents, siblings or college roommates to be your audience for a practice presentation. Ask them to give you honest feedback and constructive criticism of your presentation. Take their suggestions back to the drawing board and rework you presentation. Once you have fine-tuned your work, ask your family and friends audience to sit through the finished product.
Watch Other Speakers
One of the best ways to get your presentation skills fine-tuned is to watch other speakers, according to Waterloo University. This is easy to do today with all of the DVDs of events available and with the many channels on the television that are dedicated to people speaking about politics and world issues. Find a style you like, but keep it as natural as you can. Watch these over and over again to get a feel for different techniques such as body language and voice volume

Tip of improving oral presentation
v  1
Write an outline of your speech. List the points that you wish to cover. Stick to about three main points for the body of the speech.
v  2
Write an opening for your speech. Tell a story or ask a thought-provoking question. Include information about what you plan to talk about and how it will benefit the audience.
v  3
Write a closing statement. Create a clever statement or an action plan for the audience to use.
v  4
Prepare easy-to-read notes for your speech. Use a large-size font that is easy to read. Place the notes in a place that is easy to see and read. Set a clock or timer next to your notes to keep track of how fast or slowly your speech is going.
v  5
Practice giving your speech many times. Practice in front of a mirror. Practice in your car while you are driving. Practice in front of a small group. Ask your family or friends to listen to your speech and offer advice. Join a Toastmasters group for practice. Don't memorize the speech; just follow the main points from your written outline.
v  6
Videotape yourself giving a speech. Look for ways that you can improve your speaking presentation. Listen for repetitive phrases and for non word fillers such as um or ah.
v  7
Visualize giving a successful speech. See the crowd clapping and paying attention to what you have to say. See yourself relaxed and the words flowing confidently from your mouth.
v  8
Learn how to operate the equipment that you will be using such as microphones and slide projectors. Practice giving a speech with a microphone. Be sure all of the equipment that you plan to use is working properly
